Florida Weather Is Stressing Out Your Landscape — Here’s What to Do About It
South Florida’s weather is no joke. May brings intense heat, dry spells, and — just when your landscape is gasping for air — the rainy season rolls in with a bang. These rapid weather swings put serious stress on your lawn, plants, and trees. If you don’t prep now, the damage can be costly.
Here’s how to protect your property before the rain hits.
1. Deep Watering = Stronger Roots
Your lawn needs help dealing with heat. Light surface watering won’t cut it — it actually weakens your turf. Instead, water deeply 2–3 times a week, early in the morning. This encourages deep root growth, making your lawn more drought- and flood-resistant.
Tip: If you haven’t checked your irrigation system in a while, now’s the time. Smart timers can save water andprevent overwatering during storms.
2. Trim & Clear Before the Storms
Overgrown trees and shrubs may seem harmless, but when June storms hit, they can become dangerous. Broken branches, blocked drains, and snapped palms are common (and expensive) issues.
Schedule pre-storm pruning and remove dead plants now to avoid emergency calls later.
3. Think Drainage — Not Just Sprinklers
Too much rain, too fast = puddling, runoff, and damage. Check for low spots in your yard, clogged gutters, or mulch that’s washing out.
We recommend a drainage inspection to avoid soil erosion, root rot, and tenant complaints (if you manage properties).
